What Are You Doing Now, Lord?

(a prayer for walking the sometimes lonely road of faith)

So what are you

doing with us

now, O Lord?

We have left everything

to follow you.

Where are you

taking us?

I know, I know.

We are on a journey with you

to your kingdom/kin-dom

while embodying

your kingdom/kin-dom

while on the move.

But some days are

hard, Lord.

In our prayers,

and experiences,

and in the pace of our lives,

and the lives of our companions

in Christ, we search for glimpses

of you along the way --

pillars of fire by night

cloud by day

or even a burning bush

now and then

are always helpful, Lord.

Show up, please,

as we trust in your grace and

follow, follow, follow,

step-by-step

night and day

year by year

the footsteps of Jesus.

O Lord, help us take up our cross

which is really your cross

defined by your sacrifice

and grace.

Give us the courage to give

ourselves away, no matter what,

to your way for the sake

of the world "God

so loved" -- and still does.

All we ask is that you

show up, God,

in nudges and glory,

in presence and mystery,

in comfort and surprise,

in the face of someone

who loves you, too,

O God, who is always present,

though, as you know well,

sometimes silent.

Help us walk your way.

Grateful always,

Amen.
