We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating and going to a new church for the first time can be nerveracking. We want to help make your first experience at Freemason Street a great one.
On Sundays, the buildings open by 9:30 am during the school year and 10:15 in the summer.
The church parking lot is on the Freemason Street side of the buildings, with ample closeup parking.
Through the gate to the courtyard. On days or evenings when we sponsor community concerts or special events, the porte cochere entrance facing the community garden will be open, too.
Usually, you will find someone waiting to greet you stationed near the courtyard entrance and always at the entrance to the sanctuary. Greeters stand ready to answer questions and help you find your way. Should you be looking for a Sunday school class, bible study group, groups for children and youth, an event in the chapel or fellowship hall, or the sanctuary, we will help you find your way.
Yes, entry is easy through the courtyard and, on inclement days, at the porte cochere entrance. Two elevators serve travel to the sanctuary, library, meditation room, choir rooms and meeting rooms.

At Freemason Street, you’ll find people dressed in suits, sport coats, daytime dresses, business casual, and jeans.
From one perspective, Freemason Street is big enough of heart to have room for all and small enough for true friendships to form.
In terms of Sunday attendance, in non-COVID times, you’d find an average of 120 to 200 people, including worship during special seasons like Christmas and Easter. During the pandemic, about half that many people are worshipping in-person while others participate virtually through video streaming to our Facebook page. In terms of the physical space, you’ll find the building not too large, but large enough to need to follow the signs as you get to know the place.
Our style of worship might be defined as “traditional with creative accents.” The atmosphere is warm and caring. Yet, in both the architecture and liturgy, we seek the mystery and awe of God’s presence amid the love and grace we know through Jesus Christ. From the classical tradition, music is uplifting and high quality. Sermons focus on helping individuals thoughtfully relate ancient truths to contemporary living. Thus at the center of our worship is the joyful proclamation of God’s eternal care and that Jesus is the Christ, the full expression of God’s redemptive work. And, you will find the congregation has a sense of humor, too.
Those who are part of the church come from diverse ages, backgrounds, and experiences, including teachers, business professionals, musicians, artists, engineers, builders, physicians, military personnel, parents, grandparents, persons considered middle class and upper middle class, retired clergy, as well as persons whose lives have been affected by homelessness.
The invitation given every time communion is offered is a reminder to those present that the Lord’s Supper belongs to Jesus who invites all who seek to follow Jesus to participate. Church membership is not required.
While we believe giving of our tithes and offerings is a meaningful biblical and spiritual practice, no one is expected to give in order to participate. What a person gives financially is considered a confidential matter between the person and God. We believe, too, that when it comes to giving financially in support of ministry and missions, the key is not “equal gifts but equal sacrifice.” All gifts are honored as expressions of love and care.
Of course! Jesus set the example of welcoming children into his presence and we are so glad he did. Sunday School and other activities are offered for children of all ages. When it comes to Sunday worship, children are welcome to attend with their parents. During worship, a sermon for children is offered. On most Sundays, immediately after the children’s sermon children are invited to depart for a time of children’s worship or “children’s church.” For the youngest children, from infants through age 3, childcare is available for the entire time of the worship service.

We encourage you to contact our pastor or any of our staff who you’ll find listed on this website by email or phone. They welcome your questions and will answer in a timely manner. In some cases, they may refer you to another staff member or other person best equipped to help.
Our ministers and Church Council will be glad to review the many ways you can grow in participation and meaningful involvement. Contact the ministers through the information you’ll find on the Staff page. To contact the Church Council, simply write to: council@freemasonstreet.org
We encourage your participation in the life of the church in every way and invite you to consider church membership. Church membership is an important way we share together in answering God’s call to worship, discipleship, and service. We see church membership as a sign of the covenant of God’s abounding love in Jesus Christ that binds us together.
Freemason Street is a fellowship of followers of Jesus Christ and welcomes all persons who accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and wish to become members of the congregation through profession of faith and baptism or by statement of faith, previous baptism, and previous membership in a Christian Church.
If you are considering joining the church, our ministers and deacons can help explain the meaning of membership and the process of joining. We encourage you to contact one of our ministers through the church office to set up a time to explore the possibilities and meaning of membership. Our pastor would welcome hearing from you personally at bguffey@freemasonstreet.org.
