About the event
Join us for an interest meeting for the Kerygma Approach to Bible Study.
In developing the Bible study resources produced by The Kerygma Program,
Kerygma’s people have committed to helps leaders and participants grow deeper in
their faith and in their understanding of the meaning of the Bible by:
• Combining the adventure of learning with the joy of growth
• Taking adults as genuinely interested in a serious study of the Bible
and willing to make substantial commitments to meaningful study
opportunities
• Providing quality materials that are both accessible and challenging
• Including fellowship and worship components as important to the
overall experience
• Approaching the biblical texts keeping in mind science, literature,
and history
• Providing opportunities for groups to reflect upon sometime
difficult questions of faith, like suffering, the process of revelation and
reliability of scripture, and the power of mystery as well as answers, too.
The Kerygma Program currently produces over forty studies for adults in a wide range
of study approaches, including (a) foundational studies, (b) studies of individual books
of the Old and New Testaments, (c) studies designed for holy seasons like Lent and
Advent, and (4) studies that creatively enter the biblical texts that are part of great
choral works like The Bible and Handel’s Messiah and Sowing Tears, Reaping Joy: the Bible
& Brahms’ Requiem.
Our Proposed Other-than-Sunday Study for 2022-2023
If there are those who be willing to commit to studying as a group
the foundational study, Kerygma: The Bible in Depth, our hope is to
begin the study group, either the last week of September or the
first week of October at a time other than Sunday morning.
We will look to those interested to set the final day and time for the
group to meet. Some suggestions so far have been:
Sundays, 3:00 — 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays, 6:30 — 8:30 p.m.
Wednesdays, 9:30 — 11:30 a.m. Saturdays, 9:30 — 11:30 a.m.
Through the exploration of ten themes relating stories and events through both the
Old and New Testaments, Kerygma: The Bible in Depth provides adults ways to study the
Bible as a whole and to enrich their skills in interpreting the biblical texts in their
original contexts and for today.
For the best experience, we need a group of eight (8) participants a minimum, with the
majority of those attending in-person – we plan to offer a Zoom option for virtual
learners, but the in-person experience is an important part of the learning experience.
Group members will be asked to covenant with one another to:
(1) Attend the 30-weekly 2-hour meetings as well as regular preparation at
home – we know everyone will have to miss on occasion, so don’t worry,
and,
(2) Purchase the Kerygma: The Bible in Depth Resource Guide ($50). The Christian
Formation Team will pre-purchase the books for reimbursement. If the fee
would prevent someone you know from participating, please let one of us
know.
Kerygma studies are for all learners from beginning to advanced.
Come and learn more in person at our interest meeting!
