Missions are those things done in the name of Christ, which care for God's world outside the walls of the church. From traditional activities, like feeding the hungry or ecological concerns, we believe God calls every person to be the heart and hands of Christ, working to bind wounds and heal hurts in our often fractured world.
Hydration Station 2010
Along with the City of Norfolk's Office to End Homelessness Freemason Street Baptist Church is participating in the project "Hydration Station." This project involves passing out cold bottles of water to the homeless in our city on Saturdays and Sundays. We will have people here at the church available to hand out water and will also have two volunteers who will drive around the area to see that those out in the heat have something to drink.
David Shufflebarger and Tim Bowling explained the project to WVEC TV. We hope this will help to spread the word to the homeless in our community.
COMMUNITY MEALS
On the fourth Saturday of each month we invite those in need to join us for a delicious meal and a chance to get in from the weather.
20,000 MEALS FOR HAITI
AUGUST 1
2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
When the earthquake first hit Haiti we all wanted to do something to help. We choose to partner with the Stop Hunger Now Organization. Stop Hunger Now provided all of the ingredients, packaging materials and equipment. We mixed, bagged, and boxed 10,000 high protein vitamin rich chicken-rice casserole into small meal packages. The meals left our church and were distributed in Haiti by well established on the ground partners working with the Stop Hunger Now organization.
Everyone, young and old, enjoyed the experience of working together to help those in need.
Because over one and a half million Haitians are continuing to live in tents and are in need of food we are once again going to prepare meals. This time we are going to package 20,000 meals! In order to do that we need 70 volunteers. If you would like to join us in this fun for the whole family event, please contact our church office.
