Dr. Stephen N. Jolly
Pastor
 
Steve, a native of Shelby, N.C., came to Freemason Street Baptist Church in November, 2002 after serving Baptist churches in both Virginia and North Carolina. Steve earned his BA and his PhD from North Carolina State University, and his Master's of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Between them, Steve and his wife Sandra have four children and three grandchildren.
 
Among the gifts which Steve brings with him to this ministry, besides his personal warmth and friendliness, are a delightful sense of humor and a knack for making the Bible come alive.
 
 
 
 
 
Robert Shoup

Bob joined the staff of Freemason Street Baptist Church on June 1, 2006. In addition to his ministry with the church, Bob will continue to serve the Tidewater community as the chorus master and staff conductor of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
He earned his bachelor’s degree is music education (voice) at Duquesne University and his master’s degree in conducting in the studio of Grammy Award-winning conductor Robert Page at Carnegie Mellon University.

Tim has been a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church 
for 3 years. He is a graduate of the University of Richmiond, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia where he earned masters and Doctoral degrees.  Tim is active in the choir and serves on the Sabbatical Team, Search Committee, and Futuring II.  He  teaches and
preaches as needed.  He and his wife Barbara have two children, and five wonderful grandchildren. 


 
 
 

 
 
 
 
Joshua Bryant
Summer Youth Intern

Joshua began working with the church on June 1.  His ministry to our youth includes times to help them grow spiritually as well as fun times!   
 
He is a student at Old Dominion University and is active in the Baptist Student Union. 
 
 

 
 
Dr. Andrey Kasparov
Pianist/Organist
 
Andrey joined the staff of Freemason Street Baptist Church on June 1, 2006. In addition to his ministry with the church, Andrey will continue to serve as an associate music professor at Old Dominion University. Andrey graduated from the Central Music School in Moscow in piano and composition in 1984. He graduated cum laude, in 1989, with a master’s degree in music composition from Moscow State Conservatory, and, in 1990, received a master’s degree in piano from the same institution. In 1999, he received his doctoral degree in music composition from Indiana University, Bloomington.
 

 
 
 
Billy Batte
Music Ministry Associate
 
Billy, who grew up in the church, has a variety of music skills.  Working along with Bob Shoup, Billy often plays the violin during Worship Service, as well as directing the Children's Choir and the Handbell Choir.  
 
 
 
 
  
 

 
Susan Keane
Church Secretary
 
Susan, a native New Yorker, joined the staff in September,1989.  Assisting the ministers, committee chairman, working as receptionist, putting together the newsletters, trying to keep members in touch with what is happening in the church and just generally doing whatever needs doing around the church office keeps her busy!
 
 
 
  
 
  
 
 
Trish Davis 
Business Secretary
  
Trish joined our staff September 2007.  Originally from Northern Virginia, she is a graduate of Virginia Tech.  She moved to this area in 1994.  Currently working for us part-time, she also works at the No-Frill Grill and Dog-N-Burger as the Office Manager and Bookkeeper. 
 
 
Carl Warren
Cook
 
Carl Warren joined our staff in April, 2009.  Born and raised in Norfolk, he spent several years in California and Nevada.  He comes to us with over twenty years experience.   In his spare time he enjoys scuba diving, fishing and snow skiing.
 
Charles Upshur
Sexton
 
Charles joined our staff in May 2009.   Charles is a native of the Eastern Shore, and he enjoys going up there to visit family and fish!   He is a handyman and is always willing to help with whatever needs to be done around the church.
